Why I am a Seventh Day Adventist

Hello beloved reader of my blog, I'm about to embark on a topic who's discussion may last a lifetime, and as we wade through these waters, someones mind may be changed. Another shall be more convinced than ever that Adventism is the way to go and yet again, someone may be galvanised all the more against this faith. Please keep an open mind, an open Bible and an open dictionary as you go through this article. I'll do my best to get to the point. I don't enjoy overwhelming you with vast quantities of words and scripture which will smother the intentions of my message, which is to bring more people to Christ and to the truth. The Bible says,"Come, let us reason together: Says The LORD...." (Isaiah 1:18).  I'm glad you opened this page. Isaiah 56:1-2 KJV [1] … Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, a and do justice: b for my salvation is near c to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. [2] Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the d sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil. … I'm here to testify why I'm a Seventh Day Adventist.

I'm a man hungry for the truth. In my early days in the faith, I was fed with spiritual milk; that is to say, I was taught the basics of God's love, the basis of our existence and where we are headed. I learnt a great deal as a new convert, and my walk is a spiralling staircase that moves ever upwards. The obstacles in my way are but stepping stones, not obstacles, that lie between me and my destination.Every man has his errors, But I take refuge in the Blood of Christ which was shed to save my kind. However, as time went by, my walk became much more complex, far beyond the early days. I started to notice that my spiritual appetites increased from merely wanting to live a godly life to wanting to tell others of this great treasure that I found in Christ Jesus.

As time went by, I started to feel a dilution of Gospel truths because there is much more to the gospel than being godly and successful; and this seemed to be all some people were interested in. I also noticed the good and the bad;what God has done in peoples lives and what Satan has done as well. I started to notice slight deviations in the gospels being preached by various churches. I couldn't bury my head in the soil. There was a stain on my conscience that avoidance could not cure. I then dug deeper and read my Bible even more. And I noticed the devil had managed to infiltrate some churches to some extent. I'm not saying that all non-Adventists are of the devil>>that is bigotry. Adventists aren't against people, but against instituted lies that enslave people. God has people in All denominations, but I believe that some have succumbed to deceptions described in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 which says,"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts they shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (KJV). The devil loves it when this happens, because he can now confidently argue with a non-believer and convince him that Christianity is a warped religion full of denominations and confusion(which I know to be a lie). I can tell you that the difference between these churches is how much Romanism they clung to and how much they let go of after the great reformation by Martin Luther and company. The Seventh day Adventist Church has let go of all the false teachings, including the worship on Sunday (which was changed from Saturday by the Roman catholic Church).

We live in an age of Mega churches. Where Pastors have deviated from speaking the whole truth to giving mere motivational pep talks that have everything to do with nothing.  In an age where the signs of Christs inevitable return are blatant, we need a leadership that shall proclaim the Three Angels' Message in Revelations 14. Which says in Summary;

  1. Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His Judgement has come.
  2. Babylon is fallen.
  3. Don't worship the beast.
Let me break this down...

I may be ignorant but I don't know of any other Church that takes these prophesies and Christs return as seriously as the Seventh Day Adventists. I searched places and it is in this church that I found the whole truth being preached without fear or favour; without bias or inclination. Others seem to have shelved the books of prophecy because these topics are deemed 'too complicated' for their congregants; this is a lie because the Bible is written in a language that even the simplest of souls is able to understand. Some things however require spiritual discernment; and I thank God for giving wisdom in abundance to all who ask for it, without finding fault (James 1:5). So if you don't understand, ask! and it shall be given. Seek and you shall find. knock on the door and it shall be opened for you.(Matthew 7:7).

In these perilous times of war, famine, strife, depression, disease and death, we need to hear more of Christ's salvation and coming; that our suffering is not in vain. Brethren we need to hear the truth in this age of deception. We need to hear of God's pardoning grace in this age of sin; where souls long to be free of its power. We need to preach and teach what The Lord said, not some fancy, warped theological theory conjured from the mind of a man. Where souls ache and crave love and affection, they should be pointed to the Author of Love! Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We need to preach God's Holiness also. We need the truth beloved. ALL of it. That said, I must tell you that faith isn't foolishness. You,dear reader, need to THINK. You need to be rooted in the word of God and open your eyes. You need to analyse the inclination of the doctrines being taught in your church; whether it emphasises on worldly success or leans towards success in the eyes of heaven. Whether it says 'live your best life now'  or   'carry your cross and follow Jesus'.

In Summary, here's EXACTLY why I'm an Adventist.

  1. We Discourage one-man shows.
This Church does not pay extreme homage to individuals. In fact everyone who stands on that pulpit knows very well that the message is greater than the messenger, and Christ Jesus is the head of the church. I love how Pastor Randy Skeete begins his sermons. He first asks the congregation to pray to God to put His words into his mouth. Then he asks the congregation to open their Bibles and their minds; and finally, he asks them to THINK. The Holy Spirit will do His work and will move the church to will and to change.

I love the fact that we lack these Cult-of-personality figures such as Joel Osteen or T.D. Jakes, who's words are given more credit than the word of God by their congregations (and they sure know how to make you feel good). I know every market has a mad man, but the demographics are in favour of the Adventists. In these dark ages, we need to reach to peoples minds and not their emotions. We need to encourage people to think more than they feel, because feelings are as fleeting as the wind, yet thoughts become beliefs; beliefs become faith and faith yields actions, and actions become habits, and habits yield character, which when tested by strife, is solid and unwavering.

  2.  We aren't afraid to call sin by its name.

Cry aloud, spare a not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew b my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins(ISAIAH 58:1).The SDA church preaches the truth in love. If you truly love someone, I believe you'd tell him the truth rather than flatter him with sweet nothings. God disciplines those he loves. In fact, the very act of disciplining your children is a form of love. The Bible says,"..The Lord disciplines the one He loves, and he chastens the one He accepts as His son" Hebrews 12:6.

Ladies and gentlemen, God is Love. But we forget that God is just. God is Holy. I've been to churches where all people preach is God's love, with a biased inclination, and the effect of that is the misrepresentation of God as this big, fluffy teddy bear that just wants to kiss and hug. It reduces the Majesty and Glory of God. We must balance God's love with God's Holiness; God's Mercy with God's Justice. The Bible says,"But who can endure the day of His coming? Who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a refiners fire, or a launderer's soap" Malachi 3:2. In the presence of God's Glory, all darkness flees. Take note; it is the light that displaces the darkness, because the darkness is subject to the light; and the darkness is the absence of light. Because where there is darkness, there is fear and confusion. We have been called to be a light unto the world in this dark age (Matthew 5:14-16).

My great friend Ernest Wamboye once said," Don't shout at the darkness.Instead, be a light in that darkness and people will follow the light and glorify God." I agreed. I just wanted to add ISAIAH 58:1;that there are people in that darkness who are so entrenched there, they need shouting at. Because the devil is shouting aloud, we may as well stop whispering the truth and shout it. We need to proclaim the Gospel clearly and aloud like the Angels in Revelations 14 because there are many false leads. The devil also transforms himself into an angel of light, and we need to identify these false leads when we see them so we may stop people from heading the wrong direction; that is the basis for pointing out falsehood within the church; not because we enjoy fault-finding, but because we want people to follow the real light of the world which is Jesus Christ.

   3. The SDA Church has ALL the Hallmarks of the Remnant Church described in Revelations.

Yes. I said it. To summarize what I mean by this, please watch the following sermon. Here is the link

Well, Just in case you couldn't go through it all, let me explain.

Regarding the three angels' messages typed above from Revelations chapter 14, I would like you to remember that this world is coming to an end;much sooner than we think. I'm not one of those dooms-day fanatics who try to predict the worlds end with mathematical specificity, because we all know what the Bible says. No one knows the day or the hour; neither the angels in heaven nor the son, but only the Father (Matthew 24:36). That said, Jesus did give us The signs of the end times in Matthew 24:3-14. Wars and rumours of wars, famines, earthquakes, nations rising against nations, persecution of saints and hatred of them because of their testimonies, false prophets, betrayal and deviations from the true faith have already happened and are happening before our very eyes. As a christian, it would be extremely diabolical to ignore this truth.

What should capture your attention is verse 14 which says,"And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, then the end will come."…

The Adventist Church has gone out to the ends of the world to preach the gospel; to every Kindred, tongue and Nation! ADRA has done so much and has partnered with so many organisations to bring relief to the suffering. The SDA church has ministered to the broken hearted, the sick, the dying, the hungry, the downtrodden, the motherless, the fatherless, the prostitute>>> to each and every group imaginable; and guess what, We are just beginning! This missionary work must be undertaken by the church during the last days.

Revelations 14:12 says,"Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the Faith of Jesus."So the remnant Church shall Honor the ten commandments. Revelations 19:10 says,"...For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (NASB).  Beloved, I firmly believe this gift of prophecy was evidenced in the life of a woman called Ellen G.White, a reformer during the late 1800's, just as Martin Luther was during the great reformation. I know  how controversial it is when someone states they have the gift of prophecy, but my Bible tells me in Acts 2:17,"In the last days,God says, I will pour out my spirit on all people. your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."(also Joel 2:28)… that is clear. But someone may ask,"how will you know she wasn't a false prophet?" well the answer to that question is simple. Matthew 7:16 says,"By their fruit you will recognise them(false teachers). Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?." Brethren, a good tree produces good fruit. Her life, her marriage and her children are a testimony of her good fruits. She was blameless(not sinless) and needed the Cross just as you and I did. All she ever taught came straight from The Bible. Her visions and experience however are NOT a substitute for the Bible, but merely a supplement to explain the bible in a deeper perspective. It is my belief that God raises up people for great campaigns against falsehood. People like Martin Luther, Wesley and White. All we must do as the congregation is watch and see if any new doctrine is rooted in the word of God. The Holy Bible is the standard.

Well ladies and gentlemen, the book of Revelations has a lot to say, but I can tell you confidently that Christ's Remnant church is the one that is awake and watching for his return. It is The church that keeps the ten commandments, evidenced in Revelations 12:17 which says,"Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring--those who keep God's commandments and hold fast their testimony about Jesus."… Ladies and gentlemen, God's remnant church is the one that keeps his Law. Someone may brand it legalism, or fanaticism. Someone may even call it salvation by works, but let me clear the air; this brings us to the next contentious issue which is the Sabbath.

The Sabbath.
"So whats the big deal anyway? its just a day"…someone once muttered. Well my dear beloved reader, it is a big deal. You see ever since the creation of man, the devil has waged war against God's righteousness, which is embodied in God's LAW. Ever since Satan got the ambition to replace The Most High, he tried to pervert Gods laws and making opposites and counterfeits. That's why keeping God's law is such a big deal.
Moses
Well someone may argue that the law was done away with, and that keeping it is salvation by works. Well, My Bible tells me in Matthew 5:18,"For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."Therefore, The Law still stands.

Ellen G.White and a group of reformers noticed something fishy. Ever since the great reformation the previous century, many churches had mushroomed. And the Protestant movement had done well to shun heresies, but had forgotten one very important thing, THE DAY OF WORSHIP, In Keeping with the fourth commandment in Exodus 20:8-11 which says,"i“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. jSix days you shall labour, and do all your work, 10 but the kseventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the lsojourner who is within your gates. 11 For min six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."

It turns out that Luther's reformation was incomplete, due to the keeping of Sunday holy instead of Saturday. I understand that God works gently and gracefully to rectify mistakes, lest anyone be lost to error. I plead with you to reason with me and drop your guard. I mean you no harm. This subject makes people squirm in their chairs but look at it objectively. The seventh day of the week is Saturday. Well how do we know it is? we know this because the Jews always kept the sabbath and have never lost count of days till today. During the Exodus from Egypt, the Israelites ate the bread of Heaven; Manna rained from heaven , enough for each person such that those who took much didn't have too much and those who had little didn't have too little. On the eve of the sabbath, the Manna rained twice as much; enough for that day and the next, and on the sabbath, manna didn't rain from heaven(Exodus 16:1-35). That way, The Lord taught them to keep the Sabbath. They still keep it to this very day.

Well someone might argue that Paul the apostle said,"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day"(Colossians 2:16). Well ladies and gentlemen, Paul was referring to the Now obsolete rituals and festivals such as the passover ,feasts, and slaughtering of lambs. Not THE SABBATH DAY! Paul HIMSELF KEPT THE SABBATH DAY HOLY...... So did Jesus, the twelve disciples and all the apostles, prophets and saints recorded in the Holy Book. People quote that verse out of context. In fact people quote Paul out of context and make him say what they want him to say.Scripture confirms scripture. Paul's style of writing was deep and needs spiritual discernment. SEE HEBREWS 4:1-11 below where PAUL CLARIFIES about THE SABBATH.I believe all the confusion is the work of Belial. In fact 2 Peter 3:16 says,"He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction."...

Isaiah 58:13-14 says,"If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD's holy day honourable, and if you Honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob." The mouth of the LORD has spoken."

No man Has the authority to change Gods law. All these changes happened when the Roman catholic church and Papacy came into power and persecuted many and changed times and laws to suit their own ends and desires. Daniel 7:25 says," He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time."

Brethren, I am a Seventh Day Adventist because this church has followed the straight and narrow path; and the gates of hades shall not and will not prevail against it.

A wise man once said the following...

"Some try to turn Christians into Sabbath keepers, while God is

working to turn some Sabbath keepers into Christians. The
Sabbath is forever as it points us to Jesus as our Creator and
Redeemer. The Sabbath is forever but Jesus is our goal; some with sound doctrine and others without."

Ill leave this article open for discussion and feel free to contribute. We are all Children of God and made in His image. Let us strive to be more and more like him every single day. I want you to ponder on Romans 10:4, (NRSV) which says,"For Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." Let us not be mere hearers of the Law, but doers of it. May God's peace be upon you and may God bless you beloved.

Hebrews 4:1-11 KJV [1] Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. [2] For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. [3] For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. [4] For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. [5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. [6] Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: [7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. [8] For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day? [9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. [10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. [11] Let us labour i therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. …

  2. Good read. I agree with the call of repentance and several things written that I cannot all mention. Good read. However, the things I disagree with are a few and here there are:
You said, “I don't know of any other Church that takes these prophesies and Christs return as seriously as the Seventh Day Adventists.” This is not true. Check out Applegate Community Fellowship and its churches. They do this every year and they go through the scriptures cover to cover. That’s just one. Check out RZIM. My own church does this. This statement is unqualified.
Secondly, you said "The devil also transforms himself into an angel of light." This isn’t tue; the scriptures don't say this. They scriptures say the devil MASQUERADES as an angel of light. The devil can't transform to light- he is darkness. He only PRETENDS to be light. The way to defeat the devil is show the GENUINE light. The devil and Jesus are not alike. The former tries to forge true light. The latter is the one true light.
Thirdly, you said. "I just wanted to add that there are people in that darkness who are so entrenched there, they need shouting at." Not true. If darkness is great then the light is needed more. We don't substitute the light for shouting. We use the very tool Christ gave- we don't replace it because we feel it is not working. Man’s wrath does not bring salvation. If light is not working against darkness, then we are not using it well. They need more light, Evans. Light does not mean "mushiness" and “softness.” Light is blazing, radiant, loving truth. The Bible says that the wrath of man does not bring salvation. Salvation is God's work. He asked us to be the Light. More entrenchment- more light- just the way Jesus taught. We can rebuke without shouting. Jesus always spoke in great light. Those who rejected it, he left. Those who accepted it, he saved. Salvation is the work of God not the work of men.

    1. 2 Cor 11:14"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." Please read the KJV, the least adulterated version of the Bible. The devil does TRANSFORM Himself into an angel of light. Secondly, I didn't say other churches don't preach eschatology at all, I said that of all churches, none preach it with the sense of urgency as the SDA's do. Third, when I say shout the Gospel instead of whispering it, I mean to say PROCLAIM IT aloud without fear. you have misunderstood that to mean go make noise like a clattering cymbal. That isn't what I said. And the darkness needs to be countered by the light; that is very true. What you need to understand is that part of the Gospel of truth involves preaching about the effects of sin and the danger of judgement, other than pointing to our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. That is what Jesus did, and that is what we are doing, without fear or favour. Understand Ernest that were are mere vessels in the winning of souls. It is The Holy Spirit who helps people will to change and we are but messengers proclaiming the gospel in all its light.

    2. KJV is good! We agree on the meaning.
"none preach it with the sense of urgency as the SDA's do._ Once again, untrue. RZIM.
Proclaiming is not shouting. Shouting is a clattering cymbal, Evans. You know communicating truth has to be done sensitively because if people read a message that means what is not written, they may be mistaken. That's why we are warned in scripture that teachers will be judged more harshly. I would omit the word shout if I were you. When you say shine light BUT.... that word but again implies the light is not enough. I wish you said shine light, period, as Christ said. The business of shouting because the devil is also shouting has no scriptural foundation; the syllogism isn't sound.

      Delete
  3. Fourthly, you said: “ Because the devil is shouting aloud, we may as well stop whispering the truth and shout it.” Shining light is not whispering the truth. Secondly, why are we doing something because the devil is doing it? I personally, don’t subscribe to any form of preaching and teaching that Jesus and Paul did not show. I won’t shout because the devil is shouting. I will shine light because Jesus said so.
My comments about the Sabbath:. I know people who are Adventists but have no personal relationship with Christ. Their “keeping the Sabbath” won’t grant them salvation. I know people who have their church services on Sundays and who have a personal and very intimate relationship with Christ- they are saved and going to heaven. I know of people who Christ spoke to instructing go to a certain church an join a fellowship and that church worshipped on Sunday- they grew there and through that bore fruit in the body. Christ fulfilled the law- all of it! He said the most important of the law was this- To love God and to love one’s neighbour. One thing that SDAs must also understand that even if the whole world agreed to go to church on Saturday, it will make no difference in their eternity if the hearts of men don’t repent and turn to God. I know Adventists who go every Saturday to fellowship but have not repented and turned to Christ. I go to church on Sunday and God is using me there every week to minister to lost people and people are coming to Christ. That wise man you quoted at the end sums up my thoughts: "Some try to turn Christians into Sabbath keepers, while God is working to turn some Sabbath keepers into Christians.” Then about this verse: "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day"(Colossians 2:16). You wrongly disqualified this verse yet what Paul says is very, very clear. You mentioned that Paul was discarding legalism- this is the same thing as insisting on a Saturday worship without a change of heart. But since you did away with that, here is another of Paul’s verses from Romans 14:5,10 regarding sacred days: “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat.” At the end of time, SDAS, Sunday-servicers and all people will stand before the judgement seat. That will be the most important moment in history where our work will either stand or fall and Jesus will be the bar- not the law, our denomination or our opinions- just Jesus.

    1. You have misunderstood the message and are twisting it to mean what you fear it is saying. When I say let us stop whispering, I mean let us stop using the wrong tool for the wrong work. Hertes what I mean. To cut a piece of cloth, you need a pair of scizzors. But to cut a tree you need an axe. It is illogical to cut a tree with a pair of scizors when an axe was provided. the gospel has provided us with various tools for various occassions and situations. what i am advocating for is the use of the correct and EFFECTIVE METHOD for the correct situation. You will not rectify old mistakes by merely stating whats good. you must; and I say, MUST, call sin by its name. We must never fear being unpopular.

    2. Secondly, you said you know of Adventists who have no personal relationship with Christ. Well Ernest I know of adventists who have a personal and intimate relationship with Christ. you may pass by Maxwell SDA today and you will find plenty of them. It is the youth week of prayer and it would be great if you came and heard the Gospel being preached. you can then weigh it objectively and see for yourself that Adventists aren't self-righteous legalists. Sabbath keeping win't guarantee salvation, a relationship with Christ will. I had no dispute with that. Regarding the quote at the end of the blog, you missed the second part of it which says, "some with sound doctrine and others without"... Doctrine, much as it may be trivialised, is important as a part of the Gospel. It is a show of God's order and organisation; The opposite of which is disorganisation. Jesus says,"If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15 KJV. what commandments are being spoken of if not the ten Commandments?..If we call it legalism to keep commandment number 4(keep the sabbath), why don't we call keeping the rest of them legalism? Is faithfulness to your spouse legalism? is not telling lies legalism? is not killing legalism? certainly not! consider James 2:10,"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." please note the word Commandments isn't written as commands. Kindly read the KJV.

    3. In regard to Colossians 2:16, it says judge not. it didn't say don't correct people. the same goes for Romans 14:5,10. please consider Matthew 5:19(kjv) which says,"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." take note, someone who didn't keep all the commandments shall make it to heaven, but my Bible tells me he will be called the least in heaven. I wouldn't want that for any of my friends... When verses advocating for keeping of the whole law VASTLY outnumber the ones that advocate liniency, you must stop and ponder about it.

I will also say again and i INSIST; non- Adventists will make it to heaven! let that sink in. How do i know? Because John the revelator saw in his vision of the people of God, "A number that no man could number" !!!(Rev 7:9). That means even a calculator couldn't count the saints who went marching in! We will all be in that number. But let us undo the work of the devil. Grace and peace bro.

    4. Of course there are adventists who will make it to heaven! Every believer knows that Christ chooses no denomination. I used the idea of no-heaven to explain that whether people worship on Sato or Sunday, it doesn't matter; the most important thing is to get born again and follow Jesus.

    6. Here is the message from the link:

In the early chapters of the book of Acts, the first Christians were predominantly Jews. When Gentiles began to receive the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, the Jewish Christians had a dilemma. What aspects of the Mosaic Law and Jewish tradition should Gentile Christians be instructed to obey? The apostles met and discussed the issue in the Jerusalem council (Acts 15). The decision was, “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood” (Acts 15:19-20). Sabbath-keeping was not one of the commands the apostles felt was necessary to force on Gentile believers. It is inconceivable that the apostles would neglect to include Sabbath-keeping if it was God’s command for Christians to observe the Sabbath day.

A common error in the Sabbath-keeping debate is the concept that the Sabbath was the day of worship. Groups such as the Seventh Day Adventists hold that God requires the church service to be held on Saturday, the Sabbath day. That is not what the Sabbath command was. The Sabbath command was to do no work on the Sabbath day (Exodus 20:8-11). Nowhere in Scripture is the Sabbath day commanded to be the day of worship. Yes, Jews in Old Testament, New Testament, and modern times use Saturday as the day of worship, but that is not the essence of the Sabbath command. In the book of Acts, whenever a meeting is said to be on the Sabbath, it is a meeting of Jews and/or Gentile converts to Judaism, not Christians.

When did the early Christians meet? Acts 2:46-47 gives us the answer, “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” If there was a day that Christians met regularly, it was the first day of the week (our Sunday), not the Sabbath day (our Saturday) (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2). In honor of Christ’s resurrection on Sunday, the early Christians observed Sunday not as the “Christian Sabbath” but as a day to especially worship Jesus Christ.

Is there anything wrong with worshipping on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath? Absolutely not! We should worship God every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday! Many churches today have both Saturday and Sunday services. There is freedom in Christ (Romans 8:21; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:1). Should a Christian practice Sabbath-keeping, that is, not working on Saturdays? If a Christian feels led to do so, absolutely, yes (Romans 14:5). However, those who choose to practice Sabbath-keeping should not judge those who do not keep the Sabbath (Colossians 2:16). Further, those who do not keep the Sabbath should avoid being a stumbling block (1 Corinthians 8:9) to those who do keep the Sabbath. Galatians 5:13-15 sums up the whole issue: “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.”

    9. Sorry, I deleted; Grammar errors. Here it is again: About calling sin, sin. I have no idea what you are talking about; I didn’t raise this. When Christ talks about the least in the Kingdom of God, he isn’t contradicting Paul’s message very clear in Colossians 2 and Romans 14, Evans. Scripture supports each other. We don’t say one outweighs the other because it appears ten times and the other appears only twice; that isn’t biblical. Scripture isn’t in competition; it is fused together to work together. So if Paul discredits the religiosity of the Sabbath, to say doing it will make you great in heaven is just untrue. Jesus and Paul are not at odds. I believe will be surprised in heaven when we think people will be great only to find them small. It will be like the parable Jesus taught about the man who went ahead and gave himself the best chair before the feast began. When the feast began, he was humbled and told to come down. The greatest command is to love God and Love men. These are the “little” commands we break everyday when we bite one another, consider ourselves superior to others and treat each other in an ungodly way. And these is what Christ referred to when he said breaking the little commands. Again: I believe we will be surprised in heaven when we think people will be great only to find them small.

    13. here's what part of it says.

“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21)
God has graciously given us His commandments as a law of love. He knew that no joy could be found while in transgression to His law. Those who worship idols and break the first and second commandments are miserable for they do not know Jesus. Also those who violate say the seventh commandment and break their marriage vows also find themselves in a depressing state, for sin separates us from the God who loves us. Worst of all, sin cost the very life of God’s own Son. All this pain, all this death, all the world’s troubles were brought about because mankind thought that their way was better than God’s.
The Bible says that our greatest delight will be found in following the plan of Jesus. It is written..
I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. ~ Psalm 40:8
      And
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. ~ Psalm 1:1-2
      And
If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the LORD honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the LORD has spoken. ~ Isaiah 58:13-14

    14. The Sabbath is about spending an entire day with Jesus. In each verse above, we are promised that we will delight ourselves in the LORD. But some claim the Sabbath was moved to the first day of the week (Sunday on most calendars), and yet others believe it should be kept as it was in the Bible, from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday (the seventh day of the week on most calendars). Does the specific day matter? Or can we choose any day?
Think about a time in the past when you setup a date to meet with a special person. Let’s say one day you setup a date to meet with that special someone, I’m sure it was exciting just waiting for the time to come. Yet what if that person showed up one whole day late? I think you would like everyone be disappointed, after all you setup a special day, cleared your schedule, and expected a wonderful time. Or what if in the near future you vote for the next president of the United States, and that person wins the election. Then one day the new president calls you up and says they would like to spend an entire day with you, to thank you for your kind vote. That would be a once in a lifetime opportunity! However when the day came, something happened and you forgot to go to that appointment with the president. A once in a lifetime opportunity lost. I’m sure that it would be rather disappointing to know that you missed out on a once in a lifetime opportunity with ,could we say the king of the United States?
Yet there is a King in heaven. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In Isaiah 58:13 He calls the Sabbath “my holy day”. Based on Isaiah 58, the seventh-day Sabbath is the Lord’s day. The Creator of the entire universe has set apart a day to spend with you. Shall we then miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity? Being one day late to that special meeting with the president wouldn’t work out, one day late would result in a missing out on that blessing. To miss out on that day with your future husband or wife, would also be even more disappointing. Yet the bridegroom is coming, but will we be ready? In fact, Jesus asked the question “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) Genuine faith produces faithfulness. Loyalty and steadfastness to the commandments of God. “We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:3-4) More important than spending a day with the president, more important than even spending a day with that special someone, the Sabbath is a whole day with the lovely Jesus. This is the true and only acceptable motivation behind obedience to every law of God’s government. That motivation is love. This is why Jesus said “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15) That is why we together in Christ should be passionate about the seventh day Sabbath.

    15. In the exact way that Jesus did. In the exact way that Jesus told us to. Isaiah 58:13-14 gives us some of the words of Jesus for the last sentence says “The mouth of the LORD has spoken.” In that passage we can find some helpful tips.
Imagine you make that appointment with the future president, but when that day came, instead of the new president sitting down at that table with you, Jesus came instead. Now that would be exciting!
What would you ask Him? What would you talk about? Would you excuse yourself and go shopping, or say thank you Jesus for your time but now I’m going to go watch a football game? No way! Not in a million years would we want to do so! Sports, shopping, facebook, text messaging and all these other distractions are normal on other days, but not on this special day! That is why Jesus said
“If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day…
Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD;”
It’s not that the Sabbath becomes a burden, it’s not that taking pleasure in normal routine activities is evil in themselves but rather as the verse says this special Sabbath day shall be a delight. What makes it so special? Because Jesus is right there with you. Because Jesus is right there, excusing our self and spending our time in secular work, shopping that can be done on another day, or other activities that distract our time with Jesus would be inappropriate. It’s hard if not nearly impossible to concentrate on God in a movie theater, in front of a television, or even in a busy market. Can you imagine Jesus sitting at a table and instead of someone talking to him, they are just watching a tv?
We definitely know what we wouldn’t do on that special day with Jesus. But what should we do? Various people have different opinions, but we are not to look to man for our doctrines, instead we are to look to Jesus. In Luke 4:14-16 it says “Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.”
You never found Jesus in the carpenter shop on the Sabbath, but you did find Him in the church. As was His custom the verse says, every Saturday Jesus attended church. But Jesus desired more than just to attend church, His mission was to save souls. If we continue reading the Bible says
“And He (Jesus) was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:
“ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD” ~ Luke 4:17-19
On the Sabbath we found Jesus reading and preaching the word of God. As He was reading from the book of Isaiah He was “preaching the gospel to the poor”. Also Jesus healed people on the Sabbath (Matthew 12:9-14). Medical missionary work and acts of charity are something that glorifies God and can win people to Him and is in perfect harmony with the Sabbath. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4) These are just a handful of things that can be done on the Sabbath. Everything centers around worship. God is glorified when we help others, when we share the gospel, when we worship at church, when we study the Bible and when we spend time with others in a good Christian environment. These are just some of the things we can do on the Sabbath.

    16. The Bible says… “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.” ~ Hebrews 10:26-27
The book of Hebrews says if we know better and continue to live in rebellion, then we are living in willful rebellion towards God. By willfully and knowingly rejecting the commandment we reject its Author. Satan is well pleased when we attempt to justify and explain away our sins, for in doing so we show that our allegiance is with the leader of the rebellion. Friends the only sin God cannot forgive us of is the one we knowingly and willingly do not repent of. So surrendering our will to the Lord in all areas of our life is of critical importance to our salvation. Keeping the Sabbath is just as important as not worshiping idols, or stealing, or committing adultery, or lying or coveting, for the Sabbath is one of the Ten Commandments. Just as the Israelite people were tested with the Sabbath right before they were to enter the promised land (Exodus 16:22-30), likewise God’s people in these last days will face that same test before entering the heavenly promised land. The Sabbath is the great test for this time. “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent”. (Acts 17:30 NIV)
Perhaps we may say that it was better to never know! But with more knowledge it is not a curse, but rather a blessing to live in accordance with the will of God. Jesus said “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”(John 15:10-11) God gives us His commandments not to be a burden but so that we may have joy. “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” ~ Revelation 22:14, Isaiah 56:2
Speaking of what is soon to come, in the book of Revelation chapters 13 & 14, there described only two classes of people. One large class in the majority, worships the beast and his image. The other smaller class worships the true Creator. The entire world is polarized into two classes and each claims to worship God….but one does it man’s way, and the other does it God’s way. In Revelation 14:6-12 is found God’s last day message of hope to the world. It begins stating…
“Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people—saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” (Revelation 14:6-7)

      Delete
    17. The first angel’s message is a call to worship Him who made the heaven and the earth, the sea and all that is in them. In the very heart of the Sabbath commandment is found “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:11). The Sabbath commandment is the only one out of the ten which focuses on God as creator. In essence, God’s last day message begins with a call back to the Sabbath. A call back to the very law of God.
The Bible tells us that in the world we live in now there are only two classes of people. “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.” (Romans 6:16, Matthew 6:24) In the last days, the Bible tells us that whom you obey is whom you worship. Despite the almost universal breaking of God’s law there is good news. Speaking of God’s last day people it says “Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” (Revelation 14:12) In the last days, God’s people will keep the commandments of God, including all of the Ten Commandments. This will be done “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.”(Zechariah 4:6) It will be done by the grace and power of God alone, we must only choose to follow Him.
You see friend, God’s greatest desire is not just to forgive us of our sins, but to transform us into what we ought to be. His desire is to transform our characters into the lovely image of Jesus. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”(2 Corinthians 5:17) God has called you to be one of those people. Today, it is not I alone who am calling you to keep the Sabbath; God is calling you to keep the Sabbath. He is saying “My son, my daughter, I have been waiting for such a long time to spend that day I set apart for you. The Sabbath was made for man, I made it for you. If you choose to keep the Sabbath, men may forsake you, but “I will never leave you nor forsake you. Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 4:19, Revelation 22:14, 3:21 NKJV)
I invite you today friend, to beginning keeping the seventh day Sabbath, the only Sabbath that God sanctified and made holy. Today Jesus is saying to you “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). If you love someone you would naturally spend time with them. And if you set an appointment to meet with someone you love, and they show up one day late, would it matter? God has sanctified the Sabbath day to spend time with us! How can we miss such an appointment!

    18. The reality is God would never force someone to spend eternity with Him, if they refused to spend one day out of the week with Him. My friend I write this with the earnest prayer that by following the Lord’s commandments you draw closer to Jesus and enter His kingdom when He returns. Keeping the Sabbath requires bearing a cross. But Jesus has promised…“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11:29-30
God’s last day people will “follow the Lamb wherever he goes”. (Revelation 14:4) That Lamb is Jesus. Now is the time to “choose this day whom ye will serve”. May you choose today to love the Lord with all your heart and mind and soul and strength by keeping His holy Sabbath. The Lord has promised to bless you if you do. Is that your prayer today? To follow Jesus, to keep His commandments of love and to spend that blessed Sabbath day with Him each week. If so I invite you to pray with me as we ask the Lord to help us.

If you are still insistent on any further response from me see the comment you deleted. I'm going to avoid adding any more words to this. Don't confuse no response to your long comment for ignoring the thread. The Unity of the Body is more important than elongating the thread further about one day of the weekend being better. 4. I must say that's quite an insight to Adventism. There's quite alot we can discuss based on it but i will try and summarise :)

From what I know each Christian faith has its own doctrines and certain practices unique to each of them. My experience with Catholic was mostly of the Rosary and prayers on each bead plus Mass and alot of emphasis on Mary Mother of Jesus Christ. The Catholic Bible also has 2 -3 extra books not found in other Bibles.....i'm yet to understand why

My home Anglican church has its own unique practices as well such as Apostle's Creed which i noticed is different from what Catholic say. Each of them has a reason why it broke away from the main church and likewise why they practice what they do. Its good to visit and learn why each practice the way they do.

When you look from the outside, its the same subject of Christ and the Holy Trinity, only that emphasis varies from one to the other. Its like looking at a statue from various angles.

First, i think what's most important for any Christian is to pray for that SPIRIT OF DISCERNMENT to know what's True and Right from what is twisted and false. Without it, its very easy to driven into a cult.

Secondly, i think regardless of which Christian faith one is in, what's important is to have that personal relationship with God. That relationship goes beyond any faith and its what gives us grants us that understanding to decipher certain truths. Like Revelation has alot of Truth that requires a great deal of God's understanding to learn about it. There are certain truth's only God knows, not even his angels or Jesus....but John might have known abit more while in Patmos......debatable?.....but i digress :)

In closing, i think the faith is what brings us together but its the personal relationship with Him that elevates us closer to Him.

"Where two or more are gathered in His name, He will be in their midst"

Its good that you have done some detailed explanations in this article in support of your denomination kudos! but there still remains concrete questions and a few controversies (which I believe you are aware off since there are out here in the public domain) regarding the Sabbath Day Adventists and its founder Ellen G. White and in many squares it is termed as a cult. What do you have to say on that?

  9. Numbers 23:19 “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act?”

GOD is pure and perfect – James 1:17 – Only one who is perfect can give a perfect gift.

“Every word of GOD is flawless; HE is a shield to those who take refuge in HIM.” Proverbs 30:5

I believe that the life we live should simply be lived according to the word of GOD. 2 Timothy 3:15-16 “All Scripture is GOD-breathed and is useful for teaching,(B) rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of GOD may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The Bible is not cake for special occasions but bread for everyday life. –Anonymous

We are saved by faith -Ephesians 2:8-10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Now when it comes to the word of the LORD, I simply believe that this verse explains what we are to do. Psalms 119:4 “You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.”

The Bible doesn’t say to keep some important ones and then some of the lesser ones we are to interpret according to our own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-7 says “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

As has been rightly said above, there are some things that are to be interpreted with spiritual discernment.

    2 Corinthians 2:12-16

“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for,
“Who has known the mind of the LORD so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.

  10. When it comes to the 10 Commandments, I have heard so many variations of arguments about them. Just today I heard that the 10 commandments were abolished and now they are only two.

Luke 10:26,27 ““What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

Okay, lets think about this verses for a minute, Isaiah 28:10 says “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little”

If we were asked to explain this verse what would we say? How are we to Love the LORD with all our heart, all our soul all our strength and our entire mind?

Surely if we were to look at the 10 commandments we could find an explanation for these words. In the first 4 commandments is set out the way in which we show our love to GOD.

Commandments 1: Exodus 20:3 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” This requires us to use our intellect (mind) and our hearts to love the LORD. If the LORD is the object of our affections then we are fulfilling what Luke 10:27

Commandment 2: Exodus 20:4 “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth” – it takes the work of our hands and strength of our body to make idols right? This also implies our intellectual strength as well. The LORD should never be placed below any thing that requires our strength. Now don’t misunderstand me by saying that I am advocating that each one should stop all the work they do on a daily basis because it violates this commandment. No I am simply saying that in everything we do, GOD comes before everything we do and there are many verses to show this; Colossians 3:23 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” again in this we love the LORD in our strength.

Commandment 3: Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. “ – again this goes back to the point that we are to love the LORD with all our heart. I mean if we live a life that honors GOD, even our speech will be mindful of how we speak GOD’s name. In GOD’s name is salvation (Acts 4:12), a safety (Proverbs 18:10), (Leviticus 19:12). This verse in Eccl. 5:2, “Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.” Helps us understand a little more what this means.

Commandment 4: Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Many of us are quick to say that because CHRIST died then these 10 commandments and therefore the keeping of a Holy day is null and void. I would beg to differ.

  11. Without the 10 commandments, how would we know sin? It clearly states in the Bible that sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). JESUS HIMself said in Matthew 5:17 that HE never came to abolish the law but rather to uphold it. If GOD says it then surely it is true! (refer to Numbers 23:19). If this is the case, this also implies that the 4th commandment is valid!

Let me insert a quick quote from a book by Loron Wade (I would recommend it) – The 10 Commandments – “Making GOD first means to lay aside any idea, interest or thought that competes with HIM or diminishes HIS sovereignty in our life”

I quote this here because at the end of the day, it is only by seeking GOD (Jeremiah 29:12,13) and HIS understanding and prayerfully studying the scriptures that we can understand the true meaning of the Sabbath. I will also involve some Ellen White quotations here. I personally believe that Ellen White was given a great understanding of the word. I do not hold this as highly as the bible because at the end of the day, it is the Bible and the Bible alone that will give us a pattern to live. But GOD granted Ellen White an understanding, and everything she wrote down she always had scriptural references. GOD can use anyone to spread the message, and I believe Ellen White was one used by GOD. The bible says to us, test! I will quote the bible here,

    James 3:13-18

    “Two Kinds of Wisdom
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

I believe as Adventist the reason we use Ellen White as a reference is because we have tested her writing according to this biblical standards and they have stood the test of GOD as words given by heavenly wisdom.

    Desire of Ages :

“The principle of every moral precept existed before the fall, and would have existed if man had never fallen. This is true of the Sabbath. But all ceremonial precepts were introduced after the fall, to shadow forth redemption.

“Here again we find that true of the Sabbath which is true of all moral commandments, viz., that it was a primary institution existing before the fall of man. But this is not true of any ceremonial statute. Idolatry, image worship, profanity, lying, stealing, etc., would all have been as morally wrong if committed before the fall as after.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hence, moral duties may be defined as those resting upon primary principles, or those which did exist before man fell, or before any remedial system was instituted. Ceremonial precepts are those which came in consequence of the fall, and which would never have existed but for sin. They grew out of the creature's action as a sinner, and shadowed forth his coming redemption. This is a plainly marked and undeniable distinction between moral and ceremonial precepts. Now we only have to ask to which of these two classes the Sabbath belongs, in order to determine whether it is a moral or a ceremonial precept. “Only one answer can be given to this. Every fact and principle upon which the Sabbath ever was based did exist before Adam sinned. Creation's work was ended, and the Lord's rest upon the seventh day was in the past. God had placed His blessing upon the seventh day and had set it apart to a sacred use. Thus the record reads: ‘Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.’ Gen. 2:1-3

“The fact that the Sabbath was given in the Edenic state indicates that it was designed to be a perpetual institution. Hence we read that when the curse shall be removed from this old earth, and the new earth state shall be brought in, then the Sabbath will still be observed, and that forever. Isa. 66:22, 23.

Now these four commandments satisfy fully the first statement of Luke 10:27, and Luke 10:27 therefore is simply a summarized version of these 4 fundamental principles or rather moral law.

The next 6 commandments (Exodus 20:12-17) then are summarized in the statement to love our neighbor as ourselves. Therefore the 10 commandments that are simply GOD’s character, which HE purposely wrote down for us, are valid as much today as they were before the Crucifixion. (James 1:17 – GOD stays the same, so does HIS character and Law)

As with regards to keeping the Sabbath and salvation,

The Bible simply states that “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” (James 2:10) The Law can never save us, for as sinful as we are, we cannot keep the perfect Law of GOD. Our own sinful desires are still raging inside, it is only through the HOLY SPIRIT that we can be enabled by GOD to live and do HIS law. Remember the Bible also says that it is GOD who works in us to will and do HIS good pleasure (Phil. 2:13).

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Bible says that we are to be not just hearers of the word but also doers of the word (James 1:22-25), lets consider vs. 25 “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

We are in agreement that the perfect Law of Liberty is simply the 10 commandments. That is the standard of righteousness. If the LORD hallowed one day out of 7, the who are we to say that whichever day we worship is of no consequence? Isn’t our aim to live according to what GOD instituted? Now when it comes to keeping the Sabbath, that is simply something the LORD must show to you. If you petition HIM to show you which day is hallowed according to HIS law, HE will be ever willing to give you clarity and understanding on this matter. (Luke 11:13 - “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!")

Quoted is the scripture in Colossians 2:16 about how one should not judge one’s religious festivals and Sabbath days. If we go on to read vs. 17 “These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”

Colossians 2:16 “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. – This is a very interesting verse, of course as I have mentioned above, we cannot look at this verse alone but with vs. 17 and in the context of the chapter. With regard to the festivals Paul is speaking about here, he is mainly referring to the many Jewish customs and festivals that were set in place before the death of CHRIST. All these festivals (i.e. the Passover (Exodus 12:43-51), the feast of unleavened bread (Exodus 13:3-10), the 3 annual feasts (Exodus 23:14-19), The law of the Sabbaths (Exodus 23:10-13), the feast of the LORD (Leviticus 23:1-2), The feast of the first fruits (Leviticus 23:9-14), the feast of weeks (Leviticus 23:15-22), the feast of trumpets (Leviticus 23:23-25), the feast of tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33-44), the Sabbath of the seventh year (Leviticus 25:1-7), the new moon festival (Psalms 81:3), 1 Chronicles 23:30-31, 2 Chronicles 2:4) were covered here, some e.g. the Passover was a foreshadow of the coming of CHRIST for those who lived in the time before CHRIST coming. He was speaking to the Jews and Gentiles that formed the church at Colossians, and how the Jews thought that by keeping this festivals and feasts they were above the gentiles.

Now if you read Leviticus 23:3, there is a clear distinction the Bible makes between the Sabbaths that the people had chosen to institute and the Sabbath that the LORD had commanded. The Sabbath ordained by the LORD within the 10 commandments is made distinct; it was an ordinance began in Eden (or probably even in heaven) and it was made for man (Mark 2:27).
Rightly said, Salvation is the work of GOD and not man. Hebrews 7:25 “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”

  14. Salvation is a work that we co-operate with GOD to do. Here what I mean is that, we lower than angels are the ones GOD uses to speak of HIS love and HIS forgiveness to those in the wrong. I would ask you to look at it this way, who would you rather tell you a truth, the one who heard a story about a person saved by grace, or the person himself or herself? Ephesians 4:15 “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”

I believe the most effective way to spread the word is simply for us to talk of what GOD has done for us. But remember the Bible is clear, Matthew 5:14 “"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
The greatest sermon we could ever preach is simply our lives. If we say we are Christians, having the precious name of CHRIST as our own we are not to do as other people who claim to be Christian but don’t live according to the word of GOD. James 2:7 “Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?” puts it very clearly (in the context of the verse it talks about the way the rich oppress the poor and the injustices occurring by and because of the Pharisees, which is still valid today).

Then the redeemed will be welcomed to the home that Jesus is preparing for them. There their companions will not be the vile of earth, liars, idolaters, the impure, and unbelieving; but they will associate with those who have overcome Satan and through divine grace have formed perfect characters. Every sinful tendency, every imperfection, that afflicts them here has been removed by the blood of Christ, and the excellence and brightness of His glory, far exceeding the brightness of the sun, is imparted to them. And the moral beauty, the perfection of His character, shines through them, in worth far exceeding this outward splendor. They are without fault before the great white throne, sharing the dignity and the privileges of the angels. SC 126.1
In view of the glorious inheritance that may be his, “what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”(Matthew 16:26). He may be poor, yet he possesses in himself a wealth and dignity that the world could never bestow. The soul redeemed and cleansed from sin, with all its noble powers dedicated to the service of God, is of surpassing worth; and there is joy in heaven in the presence of God and the holy angels over one soul redeemed, a joy that is expressed in songs of holy triumph. SC 126.2

In regards to the thoughts above, I believe in the Sabbath day being Saturday that was set aside from before creation as an ordinance and a day of rest in the LORD a day of communion with HIM.

Isaiah 58:13-14 "If because of the Sabbath, you turn your foot From doing your own pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable, And honor it, desisting from your own ways, From seeking your own pleasure And speaking your own word, Then you will take delight in the LORD, And I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; And I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

  15. With regard to Salvation, that is a gift from GOD (Ephesians 2:8),

With regard to Ellen G White, I believe her writings if put to the test of the LORD will stand. I do not place them above or before the Bible because it is the scripture alone that is “…God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..” (2 Timothy 3:16)

Lastly, I never said people are perfect from the SDA church, but I believe the teachings are sound and they are firmly grounded on scripture and no other material. I believe the essence of life is given in this verse from

    Eccl. 12:13.14

“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”

And every deed we do is going to be placed before us. We have the choice to obey GOD’s commandments as HE says or live lives contrary to what the bible says (here I mean living a sinful life without repentance)

    Joshua 24:15

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

I pray your decisions are set with CHRIST and may the love of GOD keep you always. 2 Corinthians 13:14 “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

  16. Bonus reading: Sorrow filled Heaven, as it was realized that man was lost, and the world that God created was to be filled with mortals doomed to misery, sickness, and death, and there was no way of escape for the offender. The whole family of Adam must die. I saw the lovely Jesus, and beheld an expression of sympathy and sorrow upon his countenance. Soon I saw him approach the exceeding bright light which enshrouded the Father. Said my accompanying angel, He is in close converse with his Father. The anxiety of the angels seemed to be intense while Jesus was communing with his Father. Three times he was shut in by the glorious light about the Father, and the third time he came from the Father his person could be seen. His countenance was calm, free from all perplexity and trouble, and shone with benevolence and loveliness, such as words cannot express. He then made known to the angelic host that a way of escape had been made for lost man. He told them that he had been pleading with his Father, and had offered to give his life a ransom, and take the sentence of death upon himself, that through him man might find pardon; that through the merits of his blood, and obedience to the law of God, they could have the favor of God, and be brought into the beautiful garden, and eat of the fruit of the tree of life. 1SP 45.1
At first the angels could not rejoice, for their commander concealed nothing from them, but opened before them the plan of salvation. Jesus 1SP 45.2

told them that he would stand between the wrath of his Father and guilty man, that he would bear iniquity and scorn, and but few would receive him as the Son of God. Nearly all would hate and reject him. He would leave all his glory in Heaven, appear upon earth as a man, humble himself as a man, become acquainted by his own experience with the various temptations with which man would be beset, that he might know how to succor those who should be tempted; and that finally, after his mission as a teacher should be accomplished, he would be delivered into the hands of men, and endure almost every cruelty and suffering that Satan and his angels could inspire wicked men to inflict; that he should die the cruelest of deaths, hung up between the heavens and the earth as a guilty sinner; that he should suffer dreadful hours of agony, which even angels could not look upon, but would vail their faces from the sight. Not merely agony of body would he suffer; but mental agony, that with which bodily suffering could in no wise be compared. The weight of the sins of the whole world would be upon him. He told them he would die, and rise again the third day, and should ascend to his Father to intercede for wayward, guilty man. 1SP 45.2
The angels prostrated themselves before him. They offered their lives. Jesus said to them that he should by his death save many; that the life of an angel could not pay the debt. His life alone could be accepted of his Father as a ransom for man. Jesus also told them that they should have a part to act, to be with him, and at different times strengthen him. That he should take man’s fallen nature, and his strength would not be even equal with theirs. And they should 1SP 46.1

  17. be witnesses of his humiliation and great sufferings. And as they should witness his sufferings, and the hate of men towards him, they would be stirred with the deepest emotions, and through their love for him, would wish to rescue and deliver him from his murderers; but that they must not interfere to prevent anything they should behold; and that they should act a part in his resurrection; that the plan of salvation was devised, and his Father had accepted the plan. 1SP 46.1
With a holy sadness Jesus comforted and cheered the angels, and informed them that hereafter those whom he should redeem would be with him, and ever dwell with him; and that by his death he should ransom many, and destroy him who had the power of death. And his Father would give him the kingdom, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, and he should possess it forever and ever. Satan and sinners should be destroyed, never more to disturb Heaven, or the purified new earth. Jesus bade the heavenly host be reconciled to the plan that his Father accepted, and rejoice that fallen man could be exalted again through his death, to obtain favor with God and enjoy Heaven. 1SP 47.1
Then joy, inexpressible joy, filled Heaven. And the heavenly host sung a song of praise and adoration. They touched their harps and sung a note higher than they had done before, for the great mercy and condescension of God in yielding up his dearly Beloved to die for a race of rebels. Praise and adoration were poured forth for the self-denial and sacrifice of Jesus; that he would consent to leave the bosom of his Father, and choose a life of suffering and anguish, and die an ignominious death to give his life for others. 1SP 47.2

Said the angel, Think ye that the Father yielded up his dearly beloved Son without a struggle? No, no. It was even a struggle with the God of Heaven, whether to let guilty man perish, or to give his beloved Son to die for them. Angels were so interested for man’s salvation that there could be found among them those who would yield their glory, and give their life for perishing man. But, said my accompanying angel, That would avail nothing. The transgression was so great that an angel’s life would not pay the debt. Nothing but the death and intercessions of his Son would pay the debt, and save lost man from hopeless sorrow and misery. 1SP 48.1
But the work of the angels was assigned them, to ascend and descend with strengthening balm from glory to soothe the Son of God in his sufferings, and administer unto him. Also, their work would be to guard and keep the subjects of grace from the evil angels, and the darkness constantly thrown around them by Satan. I saw that it was impossible for God to alter or change his law, to save lost, perishing man; therefore he suffered his beloved Son to die for man’s transgression. 1SP 48.2
Satan again rejoiced with his angels that he could, by causing man’s fall, pull down the Son of God from his exalted position. He told his angels that when Jesus should take fallen man’s nature, he could overpower him, and hinder the accomplishment of the plan of salvation. 1SP 48.3
I was then shown Satan as he was, a happy, exalted angel. Then I was shown him as he now is. He still bears a kingly form. His features are still noble, for he is an angel fallen. But the expression of his countenance is full of anxiety, care, unhappiness, malice, hate, mischief, deceit, 1SP 48.4

I saw that he had demeaned himself so long that every good quality was debased, and every evil trait was developed. His eyes were cunning and sly, and showed great penetration. His frame was large; but the flesh hung loosely about his hands and face. As I beheld him, his chin was resting upon his left hand. He appeared to be in deep thought. A smile was upon his countenance, which made me tremble, it was so full of evil and Satanic slyness. This smile is the one he wears just before he makes sure of his victim; and as he fastens the victim in his snare, this smile grows horrible. 1SP 48.4
In humility and inexpressible sadness, Adam and Eve left the lovely garden wherein they had been so happy until they disobeyed the command of God. The atmosphere was changed. It was no longer unvarying as before the transgression. God clothed them with coats of skins to protect them from the sense of chilliness and then of heat to which they were exposed. 1SP 49.1
All Heaven mourned on account of the disobedience and fall of Adam and Eve, which brought the wrath of God upon the whole human race. They were cut off from communing with God, and were plunged in hopeless misery. The law of God could not be changed to meet man’s necessity; for in God’s arrangement it was never to lose its force, nor give up the smallest part of its claims. 1SP 49.2
The angels of God were commissioned to visit the fallen pair and inform them that although they could no longer retain possession of their 1SP 49.3

holy estate, their Eden home, because of their transgression of the law of God, yet their case was not altogether hopeless. They were then informed that the Son of God, who had conversed with them in Eden, had been moved with pity as he viewed their hopeless condition, and had volunteered to take upon himself the punishment due to them, and die for them that man might yet live, through faith in the atonement Christ proposed to make for him. Through Christ a door of hope was opened, that man, notwithstanding his great sin, should not be under the absolute control of Satan. Faith in the merits of the Son of God would so elevate man that he could resist the devices of Satan. Probation would be granted him in which, through a life of repentance, and faith in the atonement of the Son of God, he might be redeemed from his transgression of the Father’s law, and thus be elevated to a position where his efforts to keep his law could be accepted. 1SP 49.3
The angels related to them the grief that was felt in Heaven, as it was announced that they had transgressed the law of God, which had made it expedient for Christ to make the great sacrifice of his own precious life. 1SP 50.1
When Adam and Eve realized how exalted and sacred was the law of God, the transgression of which made so costly a sacrifice necessary to save them and their posterity from utter ruin, they plead to die themselves, or to let them and their posterity endure the penalty of their transgression, rather than that the beloved Son of God should make this great sacrifice. The anguish of Adam was increased. He saw that his sins were of so great magnitude as to involve fearful consequences. And must it be that Heaven’s honored 1SP 50.2

  19. Commander, who had walked with him, and talked with him, while in his holy innocence, whom angels honored and worshiped, must be brought down from his exalted position to die because of his transgression. Adam was informed that an angel’s life could not pay the debt. The law of Jehovah, the foundation of his government in Heaven and upon earth, was as sacred as God himself; and for this reason the life of an angel could not be accepted of God as a sacrifice for its transgression. His law was of more importance in his sight than the holy angels around his throne. The Father could not abolish nor change one precept of his law to meet man in his fallen condition. But the Son of God, who had in unison with the Father created man, could make an atonement for man acceptable to God, by giving his life a sacrifice, and bearing the wrath of his Father. Angels informed Adam that, as his transgression had brought death and wretchedness, life and immortality would be brought to light through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. 1SP 50.2
To Adam were revealed future, important events, from his expulsion from Eden to the flood, and onward to the first advent of Christ upon the earth. His love for Adam and his posterity would lead the Son of God to condescend to take human nature, and thus elevate, through his own humiliation, all who would believe on him. Such a sacrifice was of sufficient value to save the whole world; but only a few would avail themselves of the salvation brought to them through such a wonderful sacrifice. The many would not comply with the conditions required of them that they might be partakers of his great salvation. They would prefer sin and transgression of the law of 1SP 51.1

God, rather than repentance and obedience, relying by faith upon the merits of the sacrifice offered. This sacrifice was of such infinite value as to make a man who should avail himself of it, more precious than fine gold, even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. 1SP 51.1
Adam was carried down through successive generations, and saw the increase of crime, of guilt and defilement, because man would yield to his naturally strong inclinations to transgress the holy law of God. He was shown the curse of God resting more and more heavily upon the human race, upon the cattle, and upon the earth, because of man’s continued transgression. He was shown that iniquity and violence would steadily increase; yet amid all the tide of human misery and woe, there would ever be a few who would preserve the knowledge of God, and would remain unsullied amid the prevailing moral degeneracy. Adam was made to comprehend what sin is—the transgression of the law. He was shown that moral, mental, and physical degeneracy would result to the race, from transgression, until the world would be filled with human misery of every type. 1SP 52.1
The days of man were shortened by his own course of sin in transgressing the righteous law of God. The race was finally so greatly depreciated that they appeared inferior, and almost valueless. They were generally incompetent to appreciate the mystery of Calvary, the grand and elevated facts of the atonement and the plan of salvation, because of the indulgence of the carnal mind. Yet, notwithstanding the weakness, and enfeebled mental, moral and physical, powers of the human race, Christ, true to the purpose for which he left Heaven, continues his interest in the feeble, 1SP 52.2

When Adam, according to God’s special directions, made an offering for sin, it was to him a most painful ceremony. His hand must be raised to take life, which God alone could give, and make an offering for sin. It was the first time he had witnessed death. As he looked upon the bleeding victim, writhing in the agonies of death, he was to look forward by faith to the Son of God, whom the victim prefigured, who was to die man’s sacrifice. 1SP 53.1
This ceremonial offering, ordained of God, was to be a perpetual reminder to Adam of his guilt, and also a penitential acknowledgment of his sin. This act of taking life gave Adam a deeper and more perfect sense of his transgression, which nothing less than the death of God’s dear Son could expiate. He marveled at the infinite goodness and matchless love which would give such a ransom to save the guilty. As Adam was slaying the innocent victim, it seemed to him that he was shedding the blood of the Son of God by his own hand. He knew that if he had remained steadfast to God, and true to his holy law, there would have been no death of beast nor of man. Yet in the sacrificial offerings, pointing to the great and perfect offering of God’s dear Son, there appeared a star of hope to illuminate the dark and terrible future, and relieve it of its utter hopelessness and ruin. 1SP 53.2

men of divine appointment performed this solemn worship of sacrifice for the people. The blood of beasts was to be associated in the minds of sinners with the blood of the Son of God. The death of the victim was to evidence to all that the penalty of sin was death. By the act of sacrifice, the sinner acknowledged his guilt, and manifested his faith, looking forward to the great and perfect sacrifice of the Son of God, which the offering of beasts prefigured. Without the atonement of the Son of God there could be no communication of blessing, or salvation from God to man. God was jealous for the honor of his law. The transgression of that law caused a fearful separation between God and man. To Adam in his innocency was granted communion, direct, free and happy, with his Maker. After his transgression, God would communicate to man through Christ and angels. 1SP 53.3
